The countdown is on until my first homestudy meeting. Everything is done but my birth mom letter and they are still waiting for one reference letter. I'm hoping it gets there soon! I only have one more teaching day left and then just administration days. We will probably just have fun tomorrow since it's not like we are actually going to have any lessons lol. I leave here in the afternoon of the 26th and will stay in a hotel for two nights. I was going to go the 27th and then just spend the one night but since the homestudy meeting is on the 27th and I need to get to it or I'm screwed I figured the cost of one extra night was worth it. Last year my flight from here was delayed due to weather and I missed my flight to Ontario. Since I can't miss the meeting I don't want to take any chances.
Some other random decisions are about the 21 day reversal period and breastfeeding. Originally I wanted to breastfeed using a supplement system but it will be a pain in the butt to get one to Canada and it will end up costing a small fortune! My mom said she would buy me bottles and formula if I just bottle fed and since the supplement system was going to cost so much I decided to just bottle feed. The other thing is the 21 day reversal period. Originally I was going to rent a hotel room but I ended up finding a private apartment that someone rents out short term. It will end up being HALF the price of a hotel room! Once I know dates I might still see if I can get a cheap rate for a hotel room but at $50 a night for the apartment I don't think I will find a better deal. Also I was flip flopping (as usual!) about whether or not to use disposables or cloth during that time. I didn't want to pay the cost of disposables but also didn't want too much work with cloth. I have decided to do cloth. Disposables would end up costing way too much for the ones I am comfortable using. I have almost my entire cloth stash already but I'm going to invest in some pocket diapers because they are easier to use when half asleep lol. They end up only costing about $16 a diaper and I will also buy their pack that comes with two pail liners, a diaper sprayer, and flushable liners. The liners will help a lot with laundry, especially since I will probably hand wash most of the time. I was also told that washcloths (full sized, not baby) work great on newborns so I think I will pick up two packs of eight from Target because they are only $3.49 each. That would give me some extra changes and be easy to wash by hand.
The rest of my time here is going to fly by! I still need to pack up anything I won't need here since I'm trying to keep everything here to a minimum so I don't need to move a lot once I have a placement. I need to move baby stuff from here that is not going to be needed. Then I need to clean and organize the stuff that is staying. Plus clean up my classroom and finish up at work lol. This weekend is a three day weekend plus I should have Thursday to pack up my classroom.
Summer is going to fly by as well. I have so much going on plus trying to get stuff organized for baby. The first week is chaos because I have meetings with the bank, vet, groomer, travel agent, and driving my mom for surgery. Then I'm going to my parents' trailer for the weekend. After that I only have a week before I go to camp with my dog. While in the city I'm hoping to get my diaper bag stuff organized so I can bring it up here. I need to be prepared or it will drive me crazy lol.
Anyway, I'm super excited to start the homestudy and the next step in the journey to motherhood!
I am 30, single, vegan, and been on my journey to becoming a single mother since 2013. I have struggled with infertility and I am now on the path to international adoption of a little girl with Down syndrome. Come join me on my journey to becoming a mother!
